Landscape
Gabon faces the Atlantic and has a low coastal belt backed by a hilly interior. Much of the country is forested, but savannas also occur, especially in parts of the east and south. The Ogooué River and its tributaries connect large areas of the interior.
Coastal landscapes include lagoons, beaches and wetlands. Inland, rivers such as the Ivindo pass through dense forest and over falls and rapids. These contrasts are visible between the coast around Loango and the forested river systems farther east.
