The Bill of Rights protects liberties such as speech, religion, peaceful assembly, and petition. Many constitutional protections apply to people living in the United States whether or not they are citizens. Citizenship adds particular political rights and responsibilities, including eligibility to vote in federal elections.

Civic participation means taking part in public life. It can include contacting officials, working on a campaign, joining a community organization, or voting when eligible. Listen for how many examples a question requests: naming one activity twice does not supply two different examples.
