The founding generation worked on independence, diplomacy, the Constitution, and the new government. Jefferson is linked to the Declaration, Madison to the Constitution, Washington to the Continental Army and first presidency, and Hamilton to the Treasury. Franklin contributed as a diplomat, inventor, and public servant.
A closer look
The Federalist Papers argued for ratifying the Constitution. Hamilton, Madison, and Jay wrote using the shared name Publius. These essays help explain the proposed system, but they are not themselves the Constitution. A famous person may have several accepted answers; learn one clear contribution when the question asks for one.
