THE CONTEXT

Keeping recent conflicts separate

The official list also accepts the War on Terror or the War in Iraq. One conflict is enough.

How it fits together

The 1990–1991 Persian Gulf conflict followed Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait. The test’s accepted reason for U.S. entry is to force Iraqi forces out of Kuwait. This is distinct from the later Iraq War, which began in 2003.

A closer look

On September 11, 2001, terrorists attacked the United States using hijacked aircraft. The attacks struck the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, and another aircraft crashed in Pennsylvania. The Afghanistan War began later in 2001. For the interview, keep the event, date, and conflict name connected correctly.
