History & independence

Slovakia became part of Czechoslovakia in 1918 after centuries within the Kingdom of Hungary. The 1989 Velvet Revolution ended communist rule. A negotiated dissolution of Czechoslovakia created an independent Slovakia on 1 January 1993.
